Washington, D.C. – A new report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) warns that global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are expected to reach new records in 2023, despite devastating climate events like floods and heatwaves. The report attributes this trend to insufficient investment in renewable energy in post-pandemic economic recovery plans. Of the $16 trillion allocated to address the Covid-19 crisis, only 2% was dedicated to green energy initiatives.
The report reinforces the need for nations to prioritize green energy investment as part of their economic recovery plans to address the urgent challenge of climate change. The IEA’s findings suggest that without significant investment in renewable energy, it will be challenging to meet global goals to reduce emissions and limit the impact of climate change.
